Equestrian Pilates

If you have poor posture and muscle imbalances in your body these are going to magnified when riding your horse.

Pilates offers riders specific exercises to strengthen the deep postural muscles, including deep abdominals and upper back muscles. Pilates will help develop body awareness and improve flexibility, strength, balance and co-ordination which helps improves your posture and security in the saddle.

The concentration required by Pilates typically appeals to horse riders. The exercises teach riders to maintain their alignment during movement through space, which requires elasticity, strength and balance. The increase in core stability that Pilates brings allows them to develop a body whose extremities can work independently of their seat thereby allowing them to be quiet and communicate better with their horses.

With a strong core and increased flexibility, riders can:

  • Better absorb a horse’s movement
  • Increase comfort during and after your ride
  • Maintain neutral pelvis so you can easily follow your horse’s movements

Develop a trusting riding relationship, where your horse responds to your commands and is confident in your ability

And what can all of this lead to?

  • A horse who trusts your commands
  • A horse who can respond to your commands
  • A horse confident with your riding ability

Horse and rider have fun!
